The 5 Best Movies and TV shows on Netflix and Amazon Prime – (In our opinion)

5.) It’s Kind of a Funny Story
Rating: 16+
Starring: Keir Gilchrist, Zach Galifianakis, and Emma Roberts
Streaming platform: Netflix
Favorite Song: Blood by The Middle East

This movie adaption of Ned Vizzini’s novel of the same name stars Craig (played by Keir Gilchrist), who suffers from depression and decides to check himself into the psychiatry ward of a hospital hoping to get better. However, since the children’s ward of the hospital is undergoing renovation he finds himself checked in the adult’s ward.

What really made me love this movie was how relatable it was. The protagonist (Craig), suffers from depression, not because of some seriously traumatic experience, but things we all as teenagers go through, like college application deadlines, the pressure to get good grades, and more. Reading this, you might feel it’s a depressing or dark movie, but there’s heaps of comedy and fun mainly brought in by the stellar performances of Keir Gilchrist and Zach Galiafinakis.
In short, it’s sad, funny, deep, hopeful, heartwarming, and a must-watch.

Friendship, love, loss, discovering, and road trips. This movie has it all. It follows the story of Ben (Paul Rudd), who after facing a personal tragedy quits his profession as a writer and decides to become a caregiver to Trevor (Craig Roberts), an 18-year-old who suffers from muscular dystrophy.

Due to his disability, Trevor is confined to his house the entire day, but that all changes when Ben decides to take him on a road trip along which they meet various people, that bring with them a new essence of life. It’s charming, humorous, and heartwarming with brilliant performances from the entire cast. A must watch indeed.

2.) Good Omens
Rating: 16+
Starring: David Tennant and Michael Sheen
Streaming Platform: Amazon Prime Video

Based on the book of the same name by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, this underrated miniseries on Amazon Prime should definitely be on your list. It’s witty, well written, satirical, and remarkable. The series follows Crowley (David Tennant) and Aziraphale (Michael Sheen), a demon and angel respectively, who after their many years on Earth, have become overly fond of the human race and thus try to do whatever they can in their power to stop the approaching Armageddon.

If not for anything, watch if for the chemistry between Crowley and Aziraphale, an unlikely duo that seemingly get along well together. It’s light, funny and everything good you need to watch after an exhausting day.

1) The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty
Rating: 13+
Starring: Ben Stiller, Kristen Wiig & Sean Penn
Streaming platform: Youtube
Favorite songs: Wake up by Arcade Fire, Lake Michigan by Rogue Waves

Even though you can’t find this movie on Netflix or Prime (but you can buy it on Youtube), I felt it necessary to add it onto this list. It’s my favorite movie of all time and it really changed the way I looked at life. The cinematography, storyline, acting, dialogues, soundtrack, and every small aspect of the movie is just perfect and amazing. The movie follows Walter (Ben Stiller), who goes on a journey around the world in search of Sean (Sean Penn) for the cover picture of the magazine’s final edition.

On that journey around the world, he discovers who he truly is and what life is all about. This movie will leave you inspired, happy, and instill a sense of wanderlust in you. It doesn’t get any better than that so don’t miss out on it.
